What if I told you there’s a pasalubong store in Davao where you can walk in, get a free taste, enjoy halo-halo and durian ice cream, and still end up wondering what to bring home?
That was my experience when I recently visited Apo ni Lola’s Matina branch.
And let me tell you, the experience starts the moment you walk through the door. As soon as you enter the store, you’re welcomed with free samples! It’s such a nice touch because before you even start shopping, you already get the chance to taste some of the products and discover something you might want to bring home.
But Apo ni Lola isn’t just about browsing through shelves of pasalubong.
During my visit, I also got to try their halo-halo, and honestly, it was so good! It was the perfect treat while exploring the store. And of course, I had to try their durian ice cream. If you’re a durian lover, this is definitely something you shouldn’t miss.
What really surprised me, though, was the variety of products available inside the store.
Of course, there are plenty of durian-based goodies—because what would a Davao pasalubong experience be without durian? You’ll find candies, frozen durian, jams, and plenty of other treats that you can bring home or enjoy yourself.
But here’s something I found interesting: Apo ni Lola isn’t all about durian.
They also have products featuring other local fruits like jackfruit, mangosteen, and more. So if durian isn’t your thing—or if you simply want to explore other local flavors—there are plenty of options to choose from.
And honestly, this is what made my visit even more enjoyable.
You can walk into Apo ni Lola without a specific item in mind and simply take your time exploring. There are so many different products to discover that you might find yourself adding a few unexpected items to your shopping bag.
You know that feeling when you tell yourself, “I’m just going to look around”?
Yeah… good luck with that. 😂
Because you start with a free taste.
Then you see the candies.
Then the jams.
Then the frozen durian.
Then you discover the jackfruit and mangosteen products.
And before you know it, you’re already thinking about who you’re going to give all these goodies to—or whether you should just keep them for yourself. 😂
For me, that’s what makes Apo ni Lola more than just another pasalubong store.
It’s a place where you can discover different flavors from Davao and Mindanao, all in one stop.
Whether you’re visiting Davao and looking for something to bring home, a Dabawenyo sending goodies to family and friends outside the city, or simply someone who loves discovering local treats, there’s something here worth checking out.
Because Dabawenyo pasalubong is more than just something you buy.
It’s a little taste of home.
It’s something you share with family and friends. Something you bring to someone who misses Davao. And sometimes, it’s simply a little treat you buy for yourself.
My visit to Apo ni Lola’s Matina branch was definitely a fun discovery, especially with the free tastings, delicious halo-halo, durian ice cream, and the wide selection of products available.
So if you’re around Matina, Davao City, make sure to drop by and explore the store for yourself.
Just remember my warning:
Don’t go in saying you’re “just looking.” 😂
Because with all the things you can taste, discover, and bring home…
you might just walk out with a lot more than you originally planned.
And honestly?
That’s part of the fun.
Apo ni Lola — a little taste of Davao worth bringing home.
