1. IT (2017): Face Your Fear of Pennywise
If creepy clowns give you nightmares, IT might be the ultimate Halloween movie for you.
Based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, this horror thriller stars Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise, a sinister entity that takes the form of a clown to prey on children. The story unfolds in Derry, Maine, where a group of young friends must confront their deepest fears after children in their community begin mysteriously disappearing.
What makes IT particularly frightening is how it combines supernatural horror with the fears and struggles of growing up. Its unsettling atmosphere, memorable villain, and disturbing sequences helped make it a major box-office success.
The film also received recognition from various award-giving bodies, including the MTV Movie & TV Awards and the IGN Awards.
Best for: Horror fans who enjoy creepy villains, supernatural mysteries, and plenty of suspense.

2. Weapons (2025): A Mystery That Keeps You Guessing
Looking for a horror movie that will leave you questioning everything? Weapons, directed by Zach Cregger of Barbarian fame, delivers a disturbing mystery built around an unsettling disappearance.
The story begins when all but one child from the same classroom mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly 2:17 a.m. As the community struggles to understand what happened, questions begin to emerge about who—or what—is responsible.
Rather than relying solely on traditional horror scares, the film draws viewers into an intricate story filled with uncertainty and tension. Its sprawling narrative keeps audiences guessing until the final moments.
Amy Madigan, who portrays the film's antagonist, Aunt Gladys, earned the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, alongside recognition from other award-giving organizations.
Best for: Viewers who love psychological tension, disturbing mysteries, and horror stories that keep them thinking long after the credits roll.

3. The Exorcist (1973): A Timeless Horror Classic
Some horror movies become classics for a reason, and The Exorcist remains one of the genre's most iconic titles.
The film follows a 12-year-old girl whose behavior and voice begin to change in terrifying ways. When medical explanations fail to provide answers, her mother discovers that something far more sinister may be happening to her daughter.
With the help of two priests, she faces the horrifying possibility of demonic possession and the desperate attempt to save her child through an ancient rite of exorcism.
Despite being released decades ago, The Exorcist continues to be remembered for its disturbing atmosphere and powerful storytelling. Its lasting influence on supernatural horror is undeniable, and its prestigious accolades include Academy Awards and Golden Globes.
If you prefer horror that builds dread instead of relying on modern visual effects, this classic deserves another look.
Best for: Fans of supernatural horror, demonic possession stories, and films that helped shape the genre.
4. Doctor Sleep (2019): The Nightmare Continues
For fans of The Shining, Doctor Sleep offers another unsettling journey into a world where trauma and supernatural forces collide.
Directed by Mike Flanagan, the film follows Danny Torrance, played by Ewan McGregor, as an adult. Still affected by the horrifying events of his childhood, Danny must confront new threats connected to his psychic abilities.
The sequel carries forward the eerie atmosphere associated with Stanley Kubrick's The Shining while exploring Danny's struggles and the dangers surrounding people who possess extraordinary powers.
Doctor Sleep received positive recognition from critics and earned several nominations at the 2021 Saturn Awards. Kyliegh Curran also won Best Performance by a Younger Actor for her work in the film.
For those who appreciate horror with emotional depth, supernatural elements, and connections to a beloved classic, this is a worthy addition to your Halloween lineup.
Best for: Fans of The Shining, supernatural thrillers, and horror stories with deeper emotional themes.
