In moments of tragedy, it’s amazing how kindness finds a way to shine. When a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake recently struck Davao Oriental, many families—especially in the town of Manay—were left struggling to rebuild their lives. Amid these challenges, the Davao Bloggers Society (DBS) stepped forward, teaming up with foodpanda, HONOR Philippines, and Ripple8 to extend much-needed relief and hope to those affected.
The Davao Bloggers Society organized the relief drive to provide immediate assistance to the residents of Manay, one of the areas hardest hit by the quake. With the help of its generous partners, the group was able to deliver two batches of donations, which included 30 boxes of drinking water, hygiene kits with sanitary pads, alcohol, soap, and shampoo, along with 50 boxes of multivitamins to support the survivors’ health and recovery.
All donations were turned over to the Metro Davao United Fire and Rescue Inc., who took charge of transporting them safely from Davao City to Manay.
Even weeks after the earthquake, life in Manay remains far from normal. Many families still have no access to running water, relying on donations or nearby streams for their daily needs. Electricity is unstable, lasting only for about half an hour a day, and mobile communication remains limited. It’s heartbreaking to imagine how difficult things continue to be for them—but it’s also inspiring to see groups like DBS and its partners stepping up to make a difference.
As Gem Tadefa, President of the Davao Bloggers Society, shared,
> “Learning about Manay’s situation moved us to take action, and we are very grateful to our partners, foodpanda, HONOR Ph, and Ripple8, for helping us make this possible. Every contribution counts, especially when our fellow Mindanawons are struggling to rebuild.”
Those words hit deep—it’s a reminder that compassion, when shared, can truly move mountains.
Ripple8’s Media Relations Director, Julius Macalagay, also shared that partnering with DBS was a simple but meaningful way to reach those in need. Meanwhile, HONOR Philippines’ PR Supervisor, Denis Santos, emphasized that progress means little if it doesn’t uplift the lives of those who need it most. For foodpanda’s PR Manager, Pau Bautista, supporting DBS in this initiative was an opportunity to stand in solidarity with Mindanawons and help bring comfort to families trying to start over.
